A Guide to Making Resolutions

It's already that time of year where we start to reflect back on what 2016 brought us and look forward to what we hope 2017 will bring. Time really does fly and I believe that in order to make the most of the time that we have, hopes and dreams are a necessity. Happiness is progress! We are sharing our resolutions with you this year and would love to hear some of yours as well!

That being said, I would like to provide you with a few guiding tips to think about while making your new year's resolutions to get the most out of 2017 and be able to measure real change:

  1. Make a rough draft of ideas you have off of the top of your head. These are general areas we hope to improve and a good place to start when reflecting on past weaknesses. Below you will see each of our rough draft lists compared to our final list of resolutions, they are different in a few ways.
  2. Decide on no more than five resolutions. This will help you to focus on improvement in the areas of your life that truly mean the most of you. We can't become perfect beings in one year, but we can make five small changes to put us in the right direction!
  3. Make resolutions that are measurable. For example, instead of "getting skinny" try "losing weight" or "losing inches". In the same breath...
  4. Make resolutions that are specific. Instead of just "losing weight", try "losing x amount of weight"... MAKE A PLAN.
  5. Write down your goals, or tell someone! Being held accountable makes a world of difference when you are teetering on the edge of your goals and you'd be surprised how supportive friends or family can be! Maybe you'll even find someone who wants to set the same resolution as you do.
  6. Most importantly, set realistic goals. You want to make the kind of new year's resolutions that you won't give up on in the first month and/or feel guilty about at the end of the year. Even though setting smaller goals may seem small, in the long run it will help you make the most enduring transformation :)
